Movie Review: SUCKER PUNCH - Pure Visual Geek Awesomness

Hey gang! Regardless of how weak the script and acting was in Sucker Punch, I had an absolute blast watching it! It was a geeks fantasy come true, a movie about hot girls sexily dressed girls fighting off steampunk zombie Nazi's, robots, dragon's, samurais, villainous pimps and ugly cooks, all part of an elaborate plan to escape an insane asylum. 

As much as I wanted to think the story of this film made sense it didn't. This movie was honestly just a collection of incredibly awesome, visually stunning action sequences. For those of you that have been looking forward to a new Heavy Metal movie… Sucker Punch is it. This is Heavy Metal brought to life. Awesome fantasy sci-fi art mixed with some great pulse pounding music. 

Zack Snyder doesn't really have a talent for writing, but he's got an incredibly vivid imagination, and he did an fantastic job directing the movie. I was completely engulfed and in awe of the fantasy worlds he created for this film. I completely left reality behind while I watched this movie, you have to if you want to enjoy it. There's no doubt in my mind that Superman is going to look amazing.

This is one of those movies you have to just let yourself go in, and except it for what it is. You've seen the trailer for the film, that's exactly what your going to get, just a lot more balls to the walls visual awesomeness. Anyone that watches this movie can't deny the power of this films visual stimulation. I'll tell you one thing… I never got tired looking at Emily Browning.

Now if this movie would have had a solid script, good dialgue and great acting it would have been a lot better. The majority of the film takes place in the mind of a young girl named Baby Doll looking to escape the insane asylum that she's been thrown into where she will receive a lobotomy. She plans her escape with four other girls, where they have to collect five items to help them break out of the asylum. Then there's this weird element thrown into the film, that when Babydoll dances she seduces everyone that is watching her to the point where everything that's going on around them disappears. It's at this point the girls enter the crazy fantasy worlds where they set out to accomplish their missions. This whole dancing aspect of the film takes place with in her imagination as well. It's like one of those dream within a dream things. But the audience has no idea what is going on in the actual real world through most of the film, which may have been more interesting. I'm going to go ahead and speculate that in the real world she was was being whored out to people at the asylum and the dancing was her way to escape the torture? Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but the dancing thing didn't really make than much sense. 

Regardless of how you look at the story the movie was an incredibly fun ride that I would gladly watch again. This movie obviously isn't for everyone, this was targeted toward a specific audience of people that like this kind of thing. Like I said earlier, to enjoy Sucker Punch you just have to let yourself go, not take it too seriously, relax and enjoy the movie for what it is.
