Stuart Beattie will Write and Direct I, FRANKENSTEIN

Movie I Frankenstein by Joey Paur

Lakeshore Entertainment has hired screenwriter Stuart Beattie to write and direct their new horror thriller I, Frankenstein. Beattie has written several high profile films which includes Pirates of the Caribbean, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, 30 Days of Night, Collateral, and several others. The guy has written some good movies and some pretty crappy one, but this I, Frankenstein film seems to fall right in the middle and be a perfect fit for him. Beattie most recently wrote and directed the Aussie-centric teen action drama Tomorrow, When the War Began which apparently did very well in Australia.

The contemporary fantasy thriller tells the story of the original monster of Victor Frankenstein, who stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world.

Underworld co-creator Kevin Grevioux created the comic book and wrote the initial screenplay adaptation, the film was at one point to be directed by Underworld: Rise of the Lycans director Patrick Tatopoulos. But, obviously that's not happening anymore.

I think this could end up being a pretty fun movie, here are a few things that we've heard about the movie from a interview that Grevioux previously gave, that will give you an idea of what to expect.

  • The story will take place in a modern day setting.
  • It will involve classic monsters of lore, like vampires, werewolves, mummies, goblins, ghosts, things of that nature. Frankenstein's going to be involved with them.
  • For the part of Frankenstein they want a bigger guy, anywhere from 6'2" to 6'6", a tad bit intimidating, someone who could act obviously, has a witty banter about him.
  • It will be a straight-forward action film that's really going to raise eyebrows.

You can check out some previously released concept art for the film Here. It will be cool to see how this movie turns out. What do you think about Beattie taking on the project?
