Julianne Hough to star in ROCK OF AGES alongside Tom Cruise

Julianne Hough (Dancing With the Stars) is close to finalizing a deal to star alongside Tom Cruise in the feature adaptation of the hit musical Rock of Ages directed by Adam Shankman for New Line.

Cruise and Mary J. Blige are locked in to star in the film based on a script by Chris D'Arienzo, The story is full of 80's rock music and is about "a small town girl who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it."

Hough will star as "Sherrie, the small-town girl who catches the eye of an arrogant and charming star (Cruise) at the top of his career. She rejects him and ends up as a stripper before finding true love at the end."

Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are both circling roles in the project, but don't have deals yet. The film is being produced by Shankman's Offspring Entertainment, Tobey Maguire's Maguire Entertainment and Corner Store Entertainment. Garrett Grant is executive producing the project which is slated to start filming in May.
