Movie Review: RANGO was Awesome!

I freaking' loved this movie! Rango is by far the best movie of 2011 so far, I know it's still early in the year, but still, I have a feeling that it will end up being one of my top 10 favorite films of the year. Rango is an awesomely fun animated masterpiece, and is also one of the best animated films I've seen. I really enjoyed the weird wackiness of the story and its characters, it is such a unique film that I think people are going to really dig it.

Not only is the story smart and funny, but the CGI animation is unlike anything I've seen before. As you may or may not know the movie was not filmed using motion capture technology, but the fluid movements of the characters, the amazing amount of details were mind-blowing. It's really surprising hwo well it turned out without the help of motion capture. I'm telling you, you've never seen CGI animation done this well.

The movie plays out like a family friendly Coen Brothers film. The dialogue is brilliantly witty, and the characters are unforgettably fun and original. Most animated kids films have just enough adult humor to keep parents entertained when they take their kids to the movies. Rango is the exact opposite, it's actually a more adult themed movie with just enough physical and wacky comedy to keep the kids entertained. I took my six year old daughter to see the film and she thought it was great, so yes you and your kids will love this movie. The question is… who will like it more?

The movie is extremely action-packed as well. There are just some epic scenes in this film that get the heart bounding. There's one scene in particular where there is this huge massive chase scene through a canyon that was so incredibly exciting to watch. It had guns, explosions, arial flight and ground battles. You have to see to be able to grasp it's epicness of scale.

Rango is first an foremost a western, and I love the western film genre. If you like that genre as well then your in for a treat because this is one of the best westerns I've seen in a long time. I actually enjoyed it more than The Coen Bros. latest film True Grit. It was just an all-around more entertaining movie.

Rango definitely gives Pixar a run for their money, and theres no doubt this will end up with a Best Animated Film nomination at the Academy Awards next year. To be completely honest with you I liked this movie more than Pixar's last three films… Toy Story 3, UP, and Wall-E. Gore Verbinski did an incredible job directing this unique film, and Johnny Depp was fantastic as the main character of the film.

Rango is a must watch film that has to go on the top of your list next time you go out to the movies. You will not be disappointed. There's no doubt in my mind that you're going to have a blast watching it, I don't know how anyone couldn't!

For those of you that want a run down of the story, it follows a pet chameleon who's lived most of his life in a glass terrarium... until he didn't. The main character Rango always thought of himself as a great hero, and a series of events leads him to living this heroic life that he's always wanted, but Rango discovers that living up to his dreams isn't very easy. He winds up in an Old West style town called Dirt, and it's there that the idealistic lizard puts on his brave face and ends up becoming the local sheriff. The town is in a drought and there is a mystery that begins to unravel. Rango becomes oddly embroiled this fantastic Spaghetti Western style movie, with a ton of pressure on his back to actually save the day.
