Only Three Main G.I. JOE Characters Returning to the Sequel?
It was recently revealed that Step Up director Jon Chu is officially attached to direct the sequel to G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. I figured that whole cast was going to return to the sequel, at least that's what we've been hearing, but apparently that's not the case. According to a tweet from Rachel Nichols who played Scarlett in the first film, only three Joes will be returning to the franchise.
Here's what she said:
GI JOE 2 News Flash: The only characters to return in the JON CHU directed sequel will be SNAKE EYES, STORM SHADOW, and DUKE...
I'm actually very surprised by this, but at this point does it really matter what they do? As much as I liked what Chu had to say about his vision for the G.I. Joe franchise this doesn't seem like a move in the right direction. A move in the right direction would be just start over with a full new cast with all of our favorite characters. They can go ahead and keep Ray Park as Snake Eyes, and Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow, but Channing Tatum has to go. Maybe they are doing it to cut down on the budget of the film.
Scarlett has always been important to the G.I. Joe team and I'm shocked they got rid of her. We're still not sure how many of the Cobra members will return. Who knows, maybe getting rid of most of the Joe characters will help the films cause, and simplify it. What do you all think?
