Disney Picks up new Sci-Fi Film THE RUNNER for Director Marc Forster
Disney bought a film pitch for a futuristic sci-fi film called The Runner, which will be written by Dave Andron and directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace). Mega producer Brian Grazer is also attached to produce the film along with Forster's Apparatus Entertainment partner Brad Simpson.
Andron sold Disney on the pitch. The writer has worked on shows such as the Knight Rider reboot, and the awesome FX series Justified. As for what The Runner is about... here's a description,
In the year 2027, Earth's surface has been rendered uninhabitable due to a devastating attack. A group of survivors living in the Rocky Mountains have discovered a way to send a man back in time. While the volunteer departs under the guise of trying to stop the devastating attack, he has an ulterior motive: to save the love of his life.
Sound like a fun big budget movie. Not only will The runner get a feature film but Disney will also be developing the property as a "TV series, video game, graphic novel, and for interactive content for hand held and mobile devices. Disney will be involved in all those other platforms." Disney is also developing another big sci-fi film project for Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski called Oblivion.
Forster is currently wrapping up his film project for Machine Gun Preacher.
