Julie Taymor has left SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK

by

Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is going to be shut down for two to three weeks that it's producers can do a major overhaul. Part of the overhaul includes the departure of director Julie Taymor. Taymor has left the production that she co-wrote as of Tuesday night. A source close to the project stated, "Taymor is out. She's left the building," reports the NY Daily News.

New rehearsals will begin on the flailing $65 million play in three weeks. A member of the production made the following statement:

"I will say about these producers, they will do whatever it takes. They want a great show. When others would have given up, they will not."

This means that the show's official opening night has been pushed back three months. It was scheduled to open next Tuesday at the Foxwoods Theatre. The musical will put on its 100th preview on Wednesday after being delayed five times. The shows spokesman, Rick Miramontez, declined a comment and insists, "The opening night is still scheduled for March 15."

Any shutdown will cost the show $1.3 million a week and cause it to miss out on any Tony Award nominations. I personally think that they need to call the time of death on this production and cut their losses.
