Blu-ray Review: MORTAL KOMBAT
Jumping into Warner Brothers' Mortal Kombat Blu-ray I knew what I was already getting in to just this time it was much clearer on Blu-ray. Watching this video game turned into live action movie brought back some fun memories of me and my friends hitting the theater way back in '95 to see something unique and special. This movie was the beginning of "the cool" video game movies and was a fun watch for its time and still is.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson's Mortal Kombat clocks in at 101 minutes and is pretty much non-stop PG-13 action. The movie has a few one-liners with Christopher Lambert (Rayden) I could live without but doesn't over do it. Rayden oversees Robin Shou (Liu Kang) and the rest of his "mortal" friends take on an army of underground monsters led by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Stung). The special effects shine with this Blu-ray release and comes through very clear on the small screen. I highly recommend Mortal Kombat on Blu-ray to any fan out there as it has stood the test of time and is still a fun watch and much better visual experience on Blu-ray!
Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert) has rescued them, but he can not fight for them. They- a martial artist, an action film star, a soldier- are the chosen three. And while the world's fate rests on their shoulders, the rest of us can enjoy the thrills as they compete to save us all in the body-slamming, mystical-tinged, full-tilt spectacle of creatures and conflict that is Mortal Kombat. Paul Anderson (Resident Evil" Afterlife) directs this astonishing and tren-setting experience that showed how to turn a smash-hit video game into a movie smash. Cheer these intrepid three Kombatants- they're fighting for you!
Warner Brothers will release Mortal Kombat on Blu-ray on April 19th.
