Ryan Gosling not starring in THE LONE RANGER

Earlier we reported that Ryan Gosling was in talks to star in Disney's The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp. Gosling's rep told Entertainment Weekly that he would not be appearing in this film.

Original story below:

Ryan Gosling is currently in talks with Disney to take on the title role in their new film The Lone Ranger, in which he would star oppositeJohnny Depp, whose playing Tonto in the film set to be directed by Gore Verbinski (Rango). If Gosling is cast in the film, it would be a very interesting team up of actors that I never really thought would ever work with each other. Gosling is a fantastic actor, but for some reason I didn't imagine the Lone Ranger being that young. Now that his name is out there though, I can see it working out. I definitely think it's a better choice than George Clooney, who was previously rumored to be up for the role.

The Wrap reports that talks are still in the early stages, and that "Gosling's schedule might not permit him to take the role." That would be a shame, so I hope they can work something out. Gosling is scheduled to shoot Warner Bros. Pictures' Logan's Run remake this fall.

The Lone Ranger's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

Now that Gosling is not starring, who do you think should play the lead role?
