Movie Review: INSIDIOUS was Awesomely Frightening
For those you you looking for an awesome horror film to see, James Wan’s Insidious is not going to disappoint. This movie was one hell of a fantastically frightening horror film! Going into the film I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype I was hearing, but Insidious ended up exceeding my expectations. It was a legitimately scary movie. The audience was jumping and screaming with frightful glee during the film, screaming themselves into laughter. The whole movie theater was completely engulfed in the movie, which made for a very fun movie going experience. As for myself, I definitely jumped a couple times, but most importantly it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it was seriously chilling.
The film follows a young boy who falls into what seems like a coma, when in reality even though his body is alive his soul has left his body to travel and ended up being trapped in a very dark and evil place. Because his body is left without a soul, it’s open season for other spirits to come in and try to take over the boys body for possession. There is one demon in particular that is inching his way in and if he makes he will wreak absolute havoc. The only way to stop that demon is for the boys spirit to reconnect with his physical body.
It’s really a great story, and the dialogue and acting was all really solid. In case you were wondering, the fearsome ghost story stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey and Ty Simpkins. If you want to get a little nit picky the movie was kind of choppy when it came to a few scene cuts and editing, but it was nothing too distracting. I loved the films insanely creepy visual look and style. But the scary vibe that this movie gives off was completely awesome. I love to watch horror films, and when I genuinely feel fear then I consider it a winner because it broke through my desensitized wall. The film had a lot of great moments.
Wan made a surprisingly terrifying film, one I have to recommend to any of you that enjoy watching horror films because I know you’ll enjoy it. If you had any doubt or fear that this movie would be a let down I’m telling you know that it’s not. Go out and watch Insidious.
