Movie Review: SOURCE CODE

Finally we’ve got an all around great movie to watch this year! As you all know it’s been a pretty slow and disappointing 2011 so far in terms of movies. There’s maybe a handful of films worth watching just for fun, most of them have had problems though, but I really enjoyed the hell out of Duncan JonesSource Code. It's definitely one of my favorite movies of the year so far.

Source Code was not only shot and directed extremely well, but the story was awesomley solid, the dialogue pitch perfect, and the acting was fantastic. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a performance by Jake Gyllenhaal that I actually really enjoyed, but he was awesome in the movie. Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga were great in the film as well.

The story follows a character by the name of Captain Colter Stevens who is part of a new government anti-terrorist program called Source Code. The program enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. In this movie, that last 8 minutes takes place on a commuter train that blows up and kills everyone on board. His mission is to find out who blew up the train so that they can stop him from blowing up the whole city of Chicago.

This is a suspenseful thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and when you think you kind of know what is going on; and a curve ball is thrown that throws the audience off and keeps them guessing. The movie has great pacing, and I love where this story takes you. It’s one of the few movies these days that actually gives you a solid satisfying ending. I also like how the movie dives into some interesting ethical and philosophical insights to give the audience some food for thought.

I’ll be surprised if this movie disappoints any of you, but I guess you can’t please everyone. Of course not everyone has liked the movie. But Jones has made another great film, and I strongly suggest you take the time to go out and see it when you get a chance.
