PRISONERS gets a new director in Denis Villeneuve

Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies), is set to direct Prisoners. He takes over for Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) to helmt the vigilante action thriller for Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. The film was written by Aaron Guzikowski, and is about a working-class Boston father whose daughter and her friend are kidnapped, but when he believes the detective botched the case, he in turn takes the man he believes responsible as a hostage.

Back in February we reported that Leonardo DiCaprio was interested in starring in the lead role and that Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale have been mentioned in key roles. Producer Andrew Kosove states that it is unlikely that DiCaprio will star and that they're looking to cast other actors to start shooting in the fall.

Incendies opens in New York and LA today and is about a pair of twins who explore their roots in the Middle East. I have heard good things about the film, so I am sure that Villeneuve will do well. It's a shame that DiCaprio will not likely be starring in the lead. I am interested in seeing how ends up joining the cast. I am sure that casting will get into full swing now that a director is at the helm.
