Ryan Reynolds compares GREEN LANTERN to STAR WARS
If you have seen the new footage from The Green Lantern you are likely as excited for it's arrival as I am. The footage proved to me that the extra $9 million used on VFX was well spent. In a recent interview with the LA Times, Ryan Reynolds talked about why he decided to take on the role of Hal Jordan, and compared the film to Star Wars. Here is what he had to say:
"I wandered through the art department, and that's what sold me, seeing this universe that's created and the scale of it all. They're taking the Green Lantern canon from the comics and they're extending it out into this new medium. Our goal is to make the first superhero who really goes on a Star Warskind of epic journey, and this mythology goes back a lot further than Star Wars."
Reynolds goes on to say that the film is not as dark as Nolan's The Dark Knight, but isn't light in tone either.
"Tone was the biggest concern going in and then it almost became a contagion, and it became the concern of everyone and with me just harping on it. And now I feel that it's the most exciting discovery as we kept going. No, it's not dark like Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, but it isn't very light like you saw some of the [1980s] Superman movies get. The character is somewhere in the middle. He's a classic male. Han Solo, who was witty but not really funny, was one of the touchstones."
Martin Campbell, the films director, revealed that the the films story gave him a chance to explore new avenues as a director.
"This was a chance to do some things I've never done before. We have a story that is very human and very much about human emotions, but what's within that story takes us off-world and into some alien settings that are extraordinary."

I am looking forward to seeing Green Lantern, but must admit that Captain America and Super 8 are my most anticipated movies coming out this summer. Empire Strikes Back was one of the first epic movie going experiences I had as a kid (aside from Raiders of the Lost Ark). I can understand how Reynolds can say that Green Lantern will be an "epic journey". Be sure to check out all our coverage of the film here.
Is Green Lantern a journey you are interested in taking this summer?
