Elizabeth Banks Officially Cast as Effie in THE HUNGER GAMES

News just broke that Elizabeth Banks has been officially cast as Effie Trinket in Gary Ross' big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. The actress has been in talks for a couple weeks now. I love that Banks was cast in this role, here is a description of her character,

Effie has pink hair, speculated to be a wig, and during thereaping wears a spring-green suit. As she gives speeches, she constantly has to get it under control.

Effie can be a bit of a airhead at times, totally oblivious to the sorrows and misfortunes that fall upon District 12. As the quote above states, she's very strict about manners and being "proper", as that is the Capitol's way. She is a classic Capitol resident with impeccable manners, getting overly distressed at seeing her wig being tilted by a drunken Haymitch at the reaping on television, during the recaps. She is also a perfectionist and extremely punctual, complaining about how a five minute train delay would affect her tightly packed schedule.

She will join the already cast Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Amandla Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin, Jack Quaid,Liam HemsworthPaula Malcolmson and Willow Shields, Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott.

It was also recently revealed that John C. Reilly will not play Haymitch Abernathy in the film.

The Hunger Games takes place in the futuristic ruins of North America, which crumbled and was replaced by a Capitol and 12 districts. Each district is forced to supply 2 teenagers, between 12 and 18. They participate in The Hunger Games, a televised reality series that pits the contestants against one another in a battle to the death. The heroine is 16-year old Katniss Everdeen, a skilled hunter who’s adept with a bow and arrow. She replaces her younger sister, who was chosen in a lottery. She is joined by a baker's son who is also chosen from her dirt poor home district.

The Hunger Games is set to be released on March 23rd 2012
