Will and Jaden Smith are set to Star in new M. Night Shyamalan Sci-fi Film

Hold on just a second here, let me get something straight... Hollywood is actually letting M. Night Shyamalan make another movie? There's something terribly wrong here. Columbia Pictures has just announced that Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith are going to star together in a new film for the director whose films have gone done the crapper.

After Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, I thought his career was finished, but I guess not. People are still willing to take the risk of loosing money on another bad film from this guy. The new project is a untitled sci-fi thriller being produced by Shyamalan and Smith along with with James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Ken Stovitz, Smith's partners at Overbrook Entertainment. The screenplay was written by Shyamalan and Gary Whitta, so you know it's going to be crap.

The story is set 1,000 years into the future, a young boy navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.

President of Columbia Pictures Doug Belgrad had this to say about the project from the press release,

Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story and we couldn't be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on 'The Pursuit of Happyness' and 'The Karate Kid.' We're thrilled to have the two of them together on this project.

Outststanding filmmaker? I take it Belgrad hasn't seen a Shyamalan film since 2004 because he wouldn't be saying that if he had. So, what did Shyamalan have to say about it?

The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project.

It's his dream project because he probably thought he wound never get to make another movie again. I'm not excited about this film at all. The directors films are just progressively getting worse.

What do you all think? Do you think Shyamalan will make another good movie? Could this be it? Or have you like myself lost all faith in Shyamalan's filmmaking skills.
