Mae Whitman cast in THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

Movie Emma WatsonLogan Lerman by

Mae Whitman (Arrested Development, Parenthood, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World)has been cast in the lead of the “indie coming-of-age drama” The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She will star opposite Logan Lerman (The Three Musketeer'sPercy Jackson) and Emma Watson.

The film is being diercted by Stephen Chbosky, who wrote the 1999 novel. The book “follows a shy and unpopular high school student who writes a series of letters to an anonymous penpal. Book gained attention for its mature exploration of the awkward times of adolescence.” Whitman joins the film as Mary Elizabeth, “a tattooed vegetarian who acts as the protagonist’s first girlfriend.”

I really enjoy Whitman's character on Parenthood. I like Lerman and what's not to love about Watson, so this is a movie I am pretty excited about seeing. Film is scheduleds to start this May in Pittsburgh for an expected 2012 release.
