Mark Canton says XERXES name dropped and production close
Mark Canton gave an update on the 300 sequel Xerxes while doing press for his upcoming film Immortals. Canton revealed that the film will not be called Xerxes and that production is "very close" to getting underway. When asked what the new title was he said, “We don’t know yet."
Zack Snyder will be fully focused on Superman through 2012, so it's likely a new director will take his place. “Soon we’ll know what we’re doing. But I don’t see us waiting two years to make the movie and Zack is very much at the helm of it at the same time,” Canton added, seeming to infer that Snyder will still be involved with the project. The Playlist also spoke with Canton while he was at WonderCon and he stated that they’ve been taking their time and deliberately have avoided cranking out a followup even though they could have. Here is what he said:
“We’ve been very, very, very careful to say the least. We could have made the sequel four years ago, but that’s a movie that the pop culture around the world embraced and so we always wanted to do it well and now we’re on the track to do something great.”
Now that the script is done, Canton believes that project is nearly camera ready and said, “I feel like it’s gonna happen and we’re close." I am very interested to see who they get to take on the directing for the film. What are your thoughts on this news?
