Ben Affleck in talks for THE GREAT GATSBY

Ben Affleck is in talks to play Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The film is based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic novel and is at Warner Bros. According to Deadline, his next directing gig is for a film about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis called Argo. His schedule is pretty busy, but it looks like he'll making time in his schedule to join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan in Gatsby. Both projects are at Warner Bros.

Buchanan's character is the husband of Daisy (Mulligan)/ Bruce Dern originated the role in the 1974 film. DiCaprio will take on the role of Jay Gatsby (Robert Redford starred in the original) and Maguire plays Nick Carraway (Sam Waterston in the original). The script was written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. Casting is still ongoing for the roles of Jordan Baker (originated by Lois Chiles), the gas station owner George Wilson (Scott Wilson) and his wife Myrtle (played by Karen Black in the original). Tom is having an affair with Myrtle, and they all play a role in a tragedy.

I think the cast is already amazing and this news makes it even better. Affleck is a great actor, he'll do a great job as Buchanan. What are your thoughts on this news?
