Alex Pettyfer cast in MAGIC MIKE opposite Channing Tatum for Steven Soderbergh

Alex Pettyfer has been cast opposite Channing Tatum in Magic Mike, which is being directed by Steven Soderbergh. The script was written by Reid Carolin and tells the real-life story of Channing Tatum'early career as a male stripper. According to Deadline, Tatum plays the title character, "who schools a young dancer (Pettyfer) in how to hustle on and off the stage. It's a wild summer of dancing, partying, and women. The inspiration was Channing's own experiences as a stripper when he was 19." Tatum and Nick Wechsler are producing with Gregory Jacobs and Carolin.

Pettyfer starred recently in I Am Number FourandBeastly. He will appear on screen opposite Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried for New Recency in the film In Time, which was originally called Now. Tatum and Pettyfer are not my favorite actors, but this film is definitely unique. Perhaps it will garner the same response that the risque Boogie Nights did for Mark Wahlberg. I like Soderbergh as a director, and am interested in seeing what he does with the film.
