Alex Pettyfer and Matthew Goode to Join Pierre Morel's OVERDRIVE

Taken director Pierre Morel is currently moving into production on a new high octane action thriller called Overdrive. Actors Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) and Matthew Goode (Watchmen) are currently in talks to star in the film. I'm still not sold on Pettyfer as an actor, I didn't think he was very good at all in I Am Number Four

The script for the film was written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who also wrote 3:10 to Yuma and Wanted. The story follows "a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers, known for being high-profile car thieves, who travel to the South of France looking for new challenges and come across a tough local crime boss."

This is a passion project for Morel but he won't be directing it, he will serve as the producer as well as the action and art supervisor. The film will be directed by up-and-coming Colombian director named Antonio Negret, who just wrapped Joel Silver-produced thriller Transit.

The producer of the film Gregoire Melin said that "Overdrive is an action flick with brains and a great dose of humor, mixing elements of Point Break and The Hangover." Morel added,

I've been looking a long time for the right project to make my producing debut. When I read Derek and Michael's script, I knew this was the perfect vehicle, in which I could input all the experience I had gathered over the years.

This sounds like it could be a very cool and exciting film. It will be shot in Marseilles in the south of France, for and is expected to be released in the summer of 2012.
