Universal Pictures is Still Moving Forward with THE DARK TOWER
The last we heard on Ron Howard’s epic film and TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, Universal was freaking out about the budget with the possibility they might shut down the production, and let Imagine Entertainment shop it around to other studios.
It’s now being reported that Universal will move forward with the huge film and TV project, but they will be cutting down the budget to make it work. They have also pushed the start date of the production out until February of next year. The studio is supposed to give the film an official greenlight by this July, if they don’t the rights go back to the author and the filmmakers.
I don’t have a problem with them lowering the budget as long as the project gets some solidly awesome production value. This is one of the biggest and most ambitious film projects in development in Hollywood, and they have to get it right. They can still do it if the money goes where it's supposed to, and they get a good creative team of people working on it.
Howard unveiled the films plans back in September to adapt The Dark Tower series into three films, and between each film will be a TV series to bridge all the stories together. Javier Bardem will be taking on the role of Roland Deschain in the film, which is awesome, and Howard and Brian Grazer are producing through Imagine, while Akiva Goldsman is writting the scripts.
What do you think about Universal cutting down the budget of the film to do it?
