James Vanderbilt Hired to Write Ridley Scott's RED RIDING

Movie Ridley Scott by Joey Paur

Screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt has been hired to write the script for the American adaptation of the fantastic British TV movies Red Riding. Vanderbilt is the perfect person for this project, he's the same guy who wrote David Fincher's Zodiac and the upcoming Marc Webb directed movie The Amazing Spider-Man. Scott is attached to direct the film.

The Red Riding story comes from four books by written by David Pearce and the neo-noir epic is based on factual events and follows several characters in intertwining storylines united by the horror wrought by the "Yorkshire Ripper," a serial killer who terrorized northwest England in the 1970s and '80s. It involves the disappearance and grisly murders of several young girls as well as police corruption in a British town. The large list of characters consist of a journalist, a solicitors, a reverend, a male prostitute, a businessman, many police officers, and assorted wives and lovers.

I absolutely loved the British Red Riding film trilogy, if you haven't watched it yet you should definitely check it out. It's available on Instant Netflix so have at it! As much as I loved those movies I trust that Vanderbilt and Scott will do a great job adapting this story as well, and I look forward to seeing how they go about telling this dark tale. What are your thoughts?
