Armie Hammer Officially Cast as THE LONE RANGER

Last month it was reported that Armie Hammer (The Social Network) was in talks to join Gore Verbinski's big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Today it's been officially announced that Hammer will in fact play The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp who has been attached to the role of Tonto for a couple of years already. The film is finally going to go into production this fall.

Hammer was great in David Fincher's The Social Network as the Winklevoss twins and I can totally see him in the role of this character wearing the iconic mask. Hammer also has that great deep booming voice, so he should sound really good shouting the classic line, "Hi Yo Silver! Away!" I'm really happy to see that he got the part, I think he'll be awesome in this movie.

The Lone Ranger's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

What do you all think about Hammer landing the role of the Ranger?
