Peter Berg, Universal plan January start for Navy SEAL film LONE SURVIVOR

Peter Berg and Universal Pictures have announced plans for a January start date on Lone Survivor. The project is based on the memoirs of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. Berg has been attached to direct for four years, and will begin shooting in January of 2012. The film details Luttrell's ordeal, heading into Afghanistan after a Taliban leader and emerging as the sole survivor.

Luttrell and Berg felt a bond as fellow Texan's, and because Berg had used Navy SEALS while shooting The Kingdom. This relationship paved the way for Universal to buy the novel and underlying life rights for Berg's Film 44, Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Productions and Barry Spikings' Spikings Entertainment. One of the four main SEAL roles was reportedly offered to Taylor Kitsch, who stars in Berg's upcoming film, Battleship

Here is what Berg had to say about the project:

"Bin Laden's death has cleared the way for this, a movie that will be an unapologetically patriotic film that honors and pays homage to an incredible group of badass guys who do this."

I am interested in seeing this film and Kathryn Bigelow's untitled Black Ops film starring Joel Edgerton, which deals with the Osama Bin Laden mission. Kitsch would be a great choice for the film. It will be interesting to see who else gets cast.
