Philip Noyce directing BLOODSPORT remake

Movie Jean Claude Van Damme by

Philip Noyce (Salt) has signed on to direct a remake of the 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme film Bloodsport. The story will follow “an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest.” The remake will be written by Robert Mark Kamen. He wrote Taken, and the upcoming Colombianaso he definitely can handle an action thriller.

The question is can Noyce direct another cool action film like Salt. That film had some pretty intense action sequences. I am hopeful that he will be able to pull together a good team on this project.  Casting is the bigger issue, because the characters were larger-than-life for the original. I am interested in seeing who they will get to play Va Damme's character as well as the role of Bolo Yeung.

I remember wearing my copy of Bloodsport out on VHS when I would have sleep overs as a kid. It was the perfect movie to watch with my friends around my old floor-unit TV. Despite having good memories for this film, I think a remake would be cool if it is done well.

What do you think of the idea of a remake? Who would you like to see cast in the lead roles?
