Minority Report Screenwriter to take on HOUDINI Biopic

Movie Harry Houdini by Joey Paur

Minority Report screenwriter Scott Frank is in talks to write the script for a biopic based on the legendary magician Harry Houdini for Columbia Pictures. This film is set to be directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Water for Elephants) to direct the movie, and produced by Jimmy Miller (The Other Guys, Bad Teacher).

There are a few Houdini movies in the works right now, most of them deal with an over-exaggeration of the character, or they've thrown in supernatural elements. Summit Entertainment is developing one called the Secret Life of Houdini, which is a action thriller featuring a Houdini character who is part Indiana Jones and part Sherlock Holmes, documenting his rise as a magician along with his covert involvement with the Secret Service. Out of all the films this is the one I am most excited for because it's the one movie that is actually more grounded in reality, and that's the story I'm interested in seeing.

If Frank ultimately takes the writing gig, I'm sure he'll do a fine job turning this story into script form. I loved what he did with Minority Report. He also wrote Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight, as well as the film Marley and Me.
