Billy Bob Thornton making new Film with Duvall, Yoakam and Quaid
Billy Bob Thornton is currently in the process of developing a new feature film that he wrote with Tom Epperson. If you couldn’t already tell the actor really hasn’t been doing much lately because apparently he’s not really that into many of the films that are being made these days, so he’s making another one of his own.
The film is a 1960’s drama called Jayne Mansfield’s Car. Thornton cast Robert Duvall in the film last year, and it was recently revealed that Dwight Yoakam and Dennis Quaid have also joined the cast. Yoakam, who worked with Thornton on Sling Blade, had this to say in a recent interview with San Luis Obispo Tribune,
Billy wrote a new screenplay titled ‘Jane Mansfield’s Car. And it’s supposed to star myself, Billy Bob and Dennis Quaid as three brothers in 1969, who are ex-World War II vets wrestling with their own families and lives on a large cattle ranch in western Alabama.
There are a few more details that have been revealed over the last year that shed some more light on this films story. Here’s what Billy Bob Thornton previously said about the movie,
It takes place in 1969 in Alabama. It’s a comedy drama, and it’s about human relationships. This one deals a lot with how different generations view war and also it examines the randomness of life and death.
Here’s what Duvall had to say about the script after he read it,
It’s another Southern tale. It puts Tennessee Williams in the back seat — it’s that brilliant… It’s about a guy in between WWI and WWII who raises a family after his wife left him for an Englishman and moved to England… When the wife dies, she asks to be brought back to Alabama to be buried, and at that point the character hasn’t seen her in 20 or 30 years. The two families — her original family she abandoned and her English family — meet and then things get really interesting.
Everyone is obviously very excited about making this film. There's no word on when it will start shooting, but this is a movie I would like to see get made. I'm all about great story telling, and this sounds like a great story, with interesting characters that will be played by fantastic actors.
