DRIVE ANGRY writer and director talk sequel possibilities

Movie Patrick Lussier by

MTV interviewed Drive Angry director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer in honor of today's DVD release. Unfortunately, I did not see the film in theaters, but I am looking forward to renting it on DVD tonight. As a reminder, the film followed Nicolas Cage as a man who escaped from hell to save the life of his murdered daughter's child. The film also stars Amber Heard as his trusty sidekick and William Fichtner as the Devil's bounty hunter. The conversation talked about a variety of topics, including the possibility of a sequel.

Here is what Lussier had to say about some of the cool deleted scenes on the DVD/Blu-ray:

"There's a couple of deleted scenes. One, that is very brief, is sort of an argument between Todd and Amber that comes just before Amber and Todd are having a fist fight out in the parking lot. The other one is a scene that scene with Bill Fichtner. It's sort of a cool, sexy little scene that was the only scene we cut out with Bill. But it's a really fun scene, it's great to include it in the DVD."

Here is what they had to say about the possibility of a sequel:

"It could happen, depending on how well the DVD and the Blu-Ray do. We've certainly got a story in mind that would be fun."

They go on to tease a little info on the story:

Lussier jokingly said: "Can we tease it? Nobody lives in the next one."

Farmer chimed in by saying: "No, no no no, we're going to be ruthless in the next one."

It makes complete sense that a sequel would not be greenlit until the studio sees how the DVD/Blu-ray sales turn out. I think that a lot of people may be more inclined to see this on DVD so I am hoping that it would turn into a cult film and sell a ton.

What are your thougths on the possibility of a sequel?
