Official Press Release:

LOS ANGELES, CA May 5, 2011 – Sanford Panitch, President of Fox International Productions, announced today that Fox International Productions has brokered a deal for the worldwide rights to EVERYBODY HAS A PLAN starring Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Soledad Villamil (The Secret in Their Eyes) in the feature film directorial debut of writer/director Ana Piterbarg. The film, which will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox in Spain and Argentina, will be introduced to select international distributors for the first time at the Marché Du Film at the Cannes Film Festival by Fox International Productions’ Senior Vice President of Sales Shebnem Askin-Schreger.

EVERYBODY HAS A PLAN tells the story of Agustín (Mortensen), a man desperate to abandon what he gradually has come to feel is an unfulfilling existence after years of living in Buenos Aires. Following the death of his identical twin brother Pedro, Agustín sets out to begin his life anew by assuming Pedro’s identity and returning to the mysterious Tigre Delta region where the brothers had spent their childhood. Soon after his homecoming, however, Agustín finds himself unwittingly embroiled in the deadly criminal underworld that his brother had been part of.

The film is set against the peculiar landscape of the Tigre Delta, a maze of islands and rivers that once served as a recreational playground for the Buenos Aires elite, where one can still find French- and English-style mansions flanking the Delta's waterways as reminders of its opulent past. But there are darker, more secluded corners deep within the wetlands where unwritten rules of conduct and codes of silence are enforced by those locals living outside the law. It is in these dangerous backwaters, which have always provided refuge for Argentina's outcasts and criminals, that Agustín faces a desperate fight for survival as he tries to reinvent himself and leave the past behind.

The film is a co-production between Haddock Films, Tornasol Films, Terz Films and Castafiore Films, and is produced by Gerardo Herrero, Mariela Besuievsky and Vanessa Ragone, the producing team behind the Academy Award® winning Best Foreign Language Film THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES. Anna Kokourina, Fox International Productions’ Vice President of Production, will oversee production of the film, which will begin shooting this summer in Buenos Aires and El Tigre in Argentina and Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante-Spain.

“I thought The Secret in Their Eyes was one of best Spanish language films of the last few years,” said Panitch. “We've been pursuing Mariela from the moment it was released, and this is a perfect way to kick off the relationship with this beautifully written thriller, plus an interesting new filmmaker to watch. I would want to watch Viggo Mortensen in any language.”

Viggo Mortensen (Agustín/Pedro) was most recently seen in the John Hillcoat-directed film THE ROAD. His diverse filmography includes starring roles in A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, HIDALGO, ALATRISTE and EASTERN PROMISES, for which he received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He worked for a third time with director David Cronenberg in A DANGEROUS METHOD, which will be released later this year. Fluent in several languages including Spanish, Mortensen was born in the United States but soon thereafter moved with his family to South America, where he lived (mostly in Argentina) until the age of 11.

Argentinean actress Soledad Villamil is best known for her stirring turn in last year’s Academy Award winning film THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES. Villamil won Spain’s Goya award for Best New Actress for her performance.

In addition to kicking off film sales for EVERYBODY HAS A PLAN at the Cannes Film Festival, Fox International Productions will also be presenting two of its films in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival: MISS BALA from Mexico, directed by Gerardo Naranjo, and THE YELLOW SEA from South Korea, directed by Na Hong-Jin. Film sales for MISS BALA will also be handled by Askin-Schreger for Fox International Productions, and Judy Ahn at Showbox will handle film sales for THE YELLOW SEA.
