Akiva Schaffer offered NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH directing gig, Ben Stiller circling

It looks as though Neighborhood Watch, the sci-fi comedy from Fox and 21 Laps is finally gaining some momentum. Akiva Schaffer has been offered the directors chair and Ben Stiller is currently circling a lead role. THR reports that Stiller and Schaffer have met to discuss the prlject, but is not sure if he will make it his next role after finishing Brett Ratner's Tower Heist for UniversalStiller is considering roles in Watch and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which are both at 20th Century Fox.

Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) is producing the film about "a suburban "neighborhood watch" group that serves as a front for dads to get some male-bonding time away from their families. The group finds itself in over its head when it uncovers a plot to destroy the world." Stiller would play one of the dads. The most recent draft of the script was penned by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which is why Stiller and Schaffer are interested . The project was previously to be directed by Pete Segal.

Schaffer directed Hot Rod and has worked on Saturday Night Live. This sounds like a good fit for both Schaffer and Stiller. What are your thoughts?
