Los Angeles Event: 20th Anniversary of THE ROCKETEER at the El Capitan Theatre This Tuesday, June 21st

If you live in Los Angeles (or within driving distance) and you're a fan of Joe Johnston's The Rocketeer, this is for you.

This Tuesday, June 21st, 2011, Disney is hosting a 20th anniversary screening of a newly restored version of the film at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the same theatre where it premiered back in 1991. And though the movie is fantastic - it happens to be one of my all-time personal favorites - the film itself isn't even the main attraction at this event. Writer/director/fanboy favorite Kevin Smith will be hosting a panel before the film featuring director Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger), the Rocketeer himself Bill Campbell, legendary make-up designer Rick Baker, screenwriters Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo, and illustrator William Stout to talk about the movie.

All audience members will get a special 20th anniversary Rocketeer program, and D23 Members will receive a commemorative Rocketeer gift. But that's not all! After the screening, the party moves over to the Hollywood Museum, where the Walt Disney Archives will display props and costumes from the movie along with the regular four floors of movie exhibits and memoribilia. Fans will also be able to puchase limited edition Rocketeer merchandise, including 20th anniversary posters, T-shirts, pins, prints, and more.

Tickets are $50 per person, but let's be honest - if you're a die-hard Rocketeer fan, this money isn't for the movie itself: it's for the experience of being able to see the film on the big screen at the place it premiered, listen to the filmmakers talk about it, and have access to all of the awesome props and merchandise from the movie. You can still order tickets online at www.elcapitantickets.com or call (818) 845-3110. Check-in begins at 6:45pm on Tuesday, and the screening begins at 7:30pm. The archives exhibit opens at 9:45pm and will go until 11:30pm at the Hollywood Museum.

I'm definitely going to check this out, since The Rocketeer is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'll be wearing a GeekTyrant shirt, so stop me and say hey if you see me out there!
