Russell Crowe to play Jor-El in Snyder's MAN OF STEEL?

Russell Crowe is currently in talks to play Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Variety reports. Marlon Brando played the role in the original film from Richard Donner. At this time Warner Bros. had no comment on Crowe's casting. He joins the cast that includes, Henry Cavill as Superman, as well as Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon. The script was written by David Goyer, who also developed the story with Nolan. Man of Steel is being produced by Charles Roven along with Emma Thomas, Nolan and Deborah Snyder.

Filming is slated to begin next month, and casting of smaller roles will conclude with Jor-El. Earlier we reported that Connie Nielsen had reportedly been offered the role of Lara, Superman's biological mother. Nielsen starred opposite Crowe in 2000's Gladiator, so it would be cool if they are cast opposite one another. Snyder was considering Sean Penn and Clive Owen for the role, but Crowe made the filnal cut. The actor is currently filming The Man With the Iron Fists for Universal.

I am excited how this cast is shaping up, and am looking forward to this film. What are your thoughts on this casting news?
