American Psycho Director to Take on WICKED LOVELY
The director of American Psycho Mary Harron, is in negotiations to direct a teen fantasy film called Wicked Lovely, which is based on the first of a series of best-selling Harper Collins novels by Melissa Marr. The film is set up at Universal pictures, and Vince Vaughn is producing it through his Wild West Picture Show Productions with his pal Peter Billingsley. Caroline Thompson was brought on to write the script, she worked with Tim Burton on films such as Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride.
This is a fantasy series that follows a 17 year old girl who can see fairies, and must fend off the advances of a fairy king determined to marry her to save the planet from his vengeful mother.
Over the years Harron also directed the drama The Notorious Betty Page, as well as TV series such as The Nine, Six Degrees and Big Love. Wicked Lovely has got a talented team behind it, so this might just end up being a really good movie. I've haven't read the books, but it will be interesting to see how the film turns out. It may not be anything like American Psycho, but it's got a solid director. What do you all think about Harron directing the film?
Here is the official description of the book:
Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty—especially if they learn of her Sight—and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.
Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost—regardless of her plans or desires.
Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life;everything.
Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale.
