SHARK NIGHT 3D chomps down on a PG-13 rating!

Shark Night 3D has just been given a PG-13 rating! I am scratching my head at this news, and am wondering if scenes were accidentally cut out to appease the MPAA. This rating is great news for Relativity Media because it allows for a wider audience to see the film. Basically, it means that teens will be annoying the hell out of me when I am trying to watch the movie. Pardon the rash generalization, but I have been to too many films rated PG-13 films where that's been the case.

David R. Ellis directed the film from a script written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes. The story revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area. Their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks. Unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals. The cast includes Sinqua Walls, Sara Paxton Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz and Joel David Moore. Check out the trailer for the film HERE.

Shark Night is no Jaws that is for sure, but the trailer above was cut too look decent.  There have been few films involving marine life that have scared me as much as Jaws (which was rated PG). I enjoyed Piranha 3D last year. The dialogue was ridiculous, the characters had no depth and it was campy. Yes those are reasons why I enjoyed it, but the biggest reason I enjoyed the film is that it was really gory and the kills scenes were pretty cool, if not memorable.

Shark Night 3D is set to be released on September 2nd 2011. I am sure that there will be enough cool kills in the film to entice horror fans to tread into theaters, but it may alienate some. What are your thoughts?
