James Spader in talks to replace Kathy Bates on THE OFFICE

TV The Office by
James Spader is currently in talks to replace Kathy Bates on The Office, THR confirms. Spader has a successful guest spot on the season finale playing one of the many hopefuls vying for Michael Scott's job as boss at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office. It is not known who will fill Steve Carell's shoes, but Spader is said to be moving up higher to take over for Bates as CEO of Dunder Miflin.

Bates is exiting the hit show to focus on annother NBC series, Harry's Law, which was picked up for a second season. No deal is in place for Spader, but talks are in the early stages. His characters name is Robert California, and "is expected to be introduced in the series premiere as a replacement for Steve Carrell's Scott. He'll immediately begin empire-building and get himself kicked upstairs, say sources."
A possible favorite for the spot is British comedian, Catherine Tate, who also guest-starred on the finale. Ed Helms, Craig Robinson and Rainn Wilson have also been mentioned as possibilities. I would love to see Helms or Wilson in the job. Spader is a good addition to the cast as well. What are your thoughts?
