Movie Review: TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON - Best Film in the Franchise

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was a movie I wasn’t really that excited about seeing. Especially after that terrible sequel, I honestly didn’t think that the franchise would get any better, I thought all hope was lost, and like many of you, I just wrote Transformers 3 off. Well, I’ll admit to you right now that I was wrong. I loved this new Transfomers film, and in my opinion Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the best film in franchise, and if there’s one Transformers you need to see... it’s this one.

I was shocked at my reactions during this movie, because I actually enjoyed the hell out of it. The characters were entertaining, the action was mind-blowingly incredible, it had some great humor and believe it or not the story was actually solid. They really took a step back and put a bit more focus on the characters, at the same time they pushed the action to epic proportions. I liked what they did with Shia LaBeouf’s character in this film, mostly because I could relate with what he was going through in the beginning, trying to land a job in this terrible economy. Once he got back into fighting robots, I couldn’t relate to him anymore, but it sure was fun. I also loved the Transformers history that was thrown into the film, and how it related to the race to the moon in the 1960’s. They also dive into the Transformers mythology, showing a epic flashback of the war in Cybertron, which was some incredibly cool. The story basically follows the Autobots,  who find out that there is a Cybertron spacecraft that crash landed on the moon in the 60’s, they set out to collect Sentinel Prime, and a few other incredibly important items on the craft before the Decepticons do, because it could mean the complete annihilation of earth.

The film was action-packed to the max, eye candy galore! But it wasn’t as cluttered as the last film, I enjoyed every minute of the action that this film threw in my face. Everything was set up and organized very well, and as badass and fast-paced as it was, it played out incredibly smooth. I loved the robot fight sequences in this film, and we actually get to see Optimus Prime go berserker, like Wolverine. There is a scene, which we see a part of in the trailer, where Optimus is kicking all kinds of ass, wrecking havoc on the Decepticons. It was one of my favorite sequences in the movie. Michael Bay really stepped it up, and they didn’t hold back on the insanity. This film gets really gritty and dark, and I liked that about it. When the Decepticon invasion begins people die, it gets brutal. I really enjoyed the fact that this time around you can kind of feel the impending doom.

Of course the movie was full of Bay’s signature explosive style, which was really fun to watch, but he took it to an epic scale. The guy definitely takes advantage of what he has to work with, especially with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, lets just say when we are first introduced to her, Bay doesn’t focus on her face. Every scene she is in is right out of one of his Victoria Secret commercials, and maybe that’s not a bad thing for the guys. Sorry girls, but Sam Witwicky didn’t get any better looking, but you have Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and Patrick Dempsey gracing the screen if any of those guys do it for you. And if they don’t, Optimus Prime is always pretty badass. Specking of Dempsey he was good in his roll, but out of all the new Cast members John Malkovich was the best, he wasn’t in it much, but he was awesomely hilarious as Sam’s boss. John Turturro exceptionally funny as well this time around.

The film was not without it’s problems. It’s no surprise that there are some awkward moments of dialogue that seemed a bit silly, but nothing too crazy that will make you want to hate the movie because of it. There was once scene near the end of the film that involved Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s character, that was my least favorite part of the film. I won’t say what goes down, but I’m sure you’ll know it when you see it. The movie was so much fun though, that I can let all that stuff slide. I just wanted to acknowledge, that yes... the movie is not perfect. Just one hell of an awesome Transformers film.

If you were like me and turned off by the idea of seeing this movie, don’t be. Bay created an incredibly entertaining, extremely action-packed Transformers film that any fan of the franchise should be able to enjoy. I highly recommend that you see this on the big-screen recommend when you get a chance. And in case if your wondering if it’s worth watching in 3D, the answer is yes. I saw the film in 3D and it actually worked very will with this high octane action film. It actually helps in seeing the epic full scope and scale of the robots in action.

So there you have, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a success.
