TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D gets a release date!

Movie Lionsgate by

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D has been given a release date by Lionsgate. Variety reports that the studio has scheduled the film for release on October 5, 2012. This is no surprise, since the studio has staked it's claim on that time of the year since 2004, when the first Saw film was released. With Saw 3D supposedly ending the franchise, the studio is looking to fill the horror gap.

In 2006, New Line released Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning on Oct. 6 and raked in $18.5 million for opening weekend. Chainsaw 3D may be directed by John Lussenhop (Takers). He is currently in talks to helm the film being produced by Carl Mazzocone, with Nu Image's Avi Lerner and Mark Burg exec producing. Production on the film began earlier this month.

Here is what Mazzocone had to say about the film:

"I'm excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy. Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper's 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original, in 3D."

I really did not care for the 2006 film, but am interested to see how this turns out. What are your thoughts on this news?
