Warner Bros. Developing a Futuristic Version of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

Movie Warner Bros. by Joey Paur

Warner Bros. has set out on a mission to develop a futuristic adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. The studio ended up buying the script simply called Cristo from screenwriter Ian Shorr. The studio is launching the project on the fast track to the big screen. The script has already been submitted to a few directors, no word on who.

The Count of Monte Cristo has been adapted several times over the year, the most recent version was the 2002 Disney film that starred James Caviezel. This new version is described as a futuristic re-telling of the adventure novel. The original story follows a young man who's unlawfully sentenced to prison. He escapes and transforms himself into the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo. He sets out on a journey to get revenge on the men who manipulated him and threw him in prison.

I've got no problems with another adaptation as long as it's a good one. It will be interesting to see where they go with it. They say it is a futuristic  version, which leads me to believe it will be a sci-fi version of the story. What do you all think?
