Idris Elba to star in Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM?

Get ready to see a lot more of Idris Elba. Fans will see the actor, best known for his roles on The Wire and most recently Thor, in two films out next year. He stars opposite Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Now The Wrap is reporting that Legendary Pictures is interested in Elba for Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi film Pacific Rim.

Earlier we reported that Charlie Hunnam had been cast in the film that takes place in "a future in which an alien attack threatens the existence of earth. Humans battle the nasty and brutal creatures by piloting giant robots." The screenplay was written by Travis Beacham. The project is being produced by Legendary Pictures' Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull.

Elba has been rumored to be in contention for the lead role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Will Smith is also in contention for the same part, so it will be interesting who QT chooses. I would love to see him as Django. I also would love to see Elba in just about anything, I think he's a great actor. What are your thoughts on a possible role in Pacific Rim?
