E3 2011 First Impressions - BATTLEFIELD 3 - the best Game at E3

TrailerGames E3 by Joey Paur

***It’s hard to give a full review on a game while at E3 because usually the demos that are available to play give us only around 10-15 minutes of gameplay time. So there will be a series of first impression reviews for the demos that I get to play while I’m here.***

I was sold on the badass awesomeness of Battlefield 3 from the very start. When I saw that first trailer showing off the actual gameplay footage my jaw dropped. This was a game I had to play, I had to see for myself if this game really was what they were selling it to be. I waited a solid 4 hours in line to check it out, I do want to say that EA Games treated the fans like shit at E3, but hot damn people... Battlefield 3 is possibly the best first person shooter game ever made. I'm serious. This was the most talked about game at E3.

Before I get into it, you should know that I was tired, hungry, and pissed by the time I was finally able to play the game. And then when I got in there the game was only available to play on a PC... D’oh! Look I love playing video games, but I don’t play on PC’s I’m a console guy. So I immediately thought I was just going to suck and make a fool of myself, and I did at first. But I eventually got the hang of it and ended up doing better than I expected.

The game looked great going in, but actually engulfing myself in the action blew all of my expectations away. It’s an adrenalin fueled masterpiece of complete and utter badassery. After playing it I honestly don't think I will ever want to play another first person war shooter. Ghost Recon, Modern Warfare, Call of Duty... Have nothing on this game. Sure they are fun, but Battlefield 3 gives us everything we want in a war game. The thing that blew me away most was how realistic it was. It was a little creepy to be honest, but it was also incredibly intense and entertaining as hell! EA put a lot of detail and care into this game. The game was developed using a custom made engine called Frostbite 2, which takes this game to ridiculous new levels.

This is the must own game for any of you that are reading this. This was one of the most fun and best games I've played at E3. It seems like any other game I play after will pale in comparison.

They had us play on a multiplayer map called the Operation Metro in Rush mode, which pretty much requires the attacking team to blow up a set of objectives so they can move on to the next area. The full map is split into four areas, and the environments offered a variety of obstacles in each section. Operation Metro starts us off in an urban park, the next two areas took place in the subway. In the final part of the map the attackers start to set off charges  in front of Paris Stock Exchange. At this point the things get really intense as the battle heats up, but our team ended up stopping the attackers and we won.

It was revealed that the military classes have been switched up, so here are the new classes. The Assault class is now the healer and can deploy health packs and paddle shock fallen comrades back into the fight. The Engineer keeps his role as the vehicle healer. The Support class now deploys ammo and can mount its heavy machine gun, which allows the player to suppress the enemy from long range, causing them to lose awareness of the battlefield. Then there is the Recon a.k.a sniper who isn’t able to blind fire with solid accuracy anymore. The developer reduced quick scoping, and the sniper needs to hold his breath for a accurate shot. It was also reveled that a team deathmatch multiplayer option will be added to the franchise for the first time. Players will also have customizable dog tags. So the dog tags you collect from your victims will have customized imagery and stats. To take your victims tags you have to take them out from behind in stealth mode.

I loved playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but the third game in the franchise is a hundred times better, and it blows the competition out of the water. You really have to play it for yourself to truly appreciate what I'm talking about. In the meantime just take my word for it, and understand that what you are seeing in the trailer is what you will be playing in the game. It will even look better by the time they are finished with it and release it.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that you and I have to own this game. And when it comes out I will see you on the Battlefield. High fives all around.

Here's a look at the level we got to play:
