Jesse Eisenberg and Jake Gyllenhaal find magic in Louis Leterrier's NOW YOU SEE ME
Jesse Eisenberg and Jake Gyllenhaal have found magic in Louis Leterrier's (Clash of the Titans) upcoming magician-heist film,Now You See Me from Summit Entertainment. Variety reports that Eisenberg is has agreed in principal to star and is in early negotiations for the film. Gyllenhaal has also reportedly been offered the other lead in the film. The deal with Eisenberg and Gyllenhaal is still in the early stages and either could easily drop out.
The script was written by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt. The story follows "a group of the world's greatest illusionists, who pull off daring bank heists during their performances, showering the profits on their audience. Eventually, the FBI gets involved, prompting a cat-and-mouse game between adversaries."
The studio had been trying to pull Colin Firth, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jim Carrey and Hugh Grant out of their hat for the lead, but ended up going with younger actors. Melanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds, Beginners) has reportedly been offered a role as well. The film is being produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci under their Paper Products banner, while Paper Products' Bobby Cohen will exec produce with Yakin.
Eisenberg will be seen next in Ruben Fleischer's comedy 30 Minutes or Less, which is set for release on Aug. 12 from Columbia Pictures. The actor will next star in Woody Allen's Bop Decameron filming this summer. Gyllenhaal will next be seen in David Ayer's cop drama End of Watch.
I think Gyllenhaal would be a great fit for this film after seeing him in Soure Code, which was a great film. Eisenberg is a great actor and has range, but I am having trouble imagining him as a magician. What are your thoughts on this news?
