Kristen Wiig to star and executive produce IMOGENE

Movie Kristen Wiig by

Kristen Wiig is set to star and executive produce a film called Imogene for Maven Pictures and Anonymous Content. THR reports that this is Wiig's passion project, which centers on "a moderately successful New York playwright who fakes a suicide attempt in order to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to be under the custory of her mother, a gambler." This project will be the first film for Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler's new production company Maven. Filming is slated to begin August 8 in New York City.

Wiig is executive producing with Shari Springer Berman, screenwriter Michelle Morgan and Steve Golin. Imogene is being produced by Alix Madigan along with Rattray and Styler. The film will be directed by Berman and Robert Pulcini (Cinema Verite).

Here is what Rattray and Styler had to say about the project:

“We're incredibly grateful to be working with Kristen, Shari, Bob and the extraordinary team on Imogene, Maven's first feature project. Imogene has every element we were looking for: strong writing, remarkable directing talent, a movie star we believe in, a New York setting, and commercial appeal. This exemplifies all the key elements of our vision for Maven's future slate."

I loved Wiig in Bridesmaids and am glad to see her lining up more projects. This sounds like a great role for her. What are your thoughts of this news?
