Brief Updates on THE JETSONS and Zack Snyder's THE ILLUSTRATED MAN

Movie Zack Snyder by Joey Paur

For those of you who are wondering what's going on with previously announced movies for The Jetsons and Zack Snyder's The Illustrated Man we have an update for you thanks to producer Denise Di Novi. who's produced films such as Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

First up, Snyder's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man. This is a project he signed on to direct about four years ago, and they are just waiting or his time to open up so that he can direct it. The director is currently taking on the Man of Steel. It would be nice to see Snyder actually get around to this flick.

I was the only person who was sad when he decided to do Superman. (Zack) reminds me of Tim (Burton*) in a lot in that he's such an auteur, and he just gives 1000% to whatever project he's working on, but that's one of my favorites. I'm a huge Bradbury fan, and (we're just) waiting for him.

The other film update we have is for the big screen adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Jetson's which Robert Rodriguez was attached to, but it doesn't sound like that's the case anymore.

I've been developing that for so many years. We actually just turned a new draft in of that script last week to the studio, so I'm still trying to make it. I still think it would be a hit movie. (Robert Rodriguez) was attached to it and his version was fantastic, but honestly, it wasn't a mainstream studio version. It was kind of his version of what he would shoot at his studio in Texas. He's got a great set-up down there, and I think part of it is that 'it may be fun to play with all those big toys at the studio' but he has a pretty good system going.

Heaven forbid a studio not turn the Jetson's into something cool. I imagine the studio is looking at making the film more along the lines of Yogi Bear, which was fantastically craptastic. She then adds

Part of it is that every couple of years, the genre kind of changes. I really credit Jeff Robinov at Warner Bros. with this. In choosing Chris Nolan to do Batman, he really exploded the expectations on adapting all these kinds of titles, the pressure is on to really make them the coolest movies, not the cornball cartoon movies. Every couple years it's changed what they thought the movie should be and I'm hoping now we're hitting it at the right time. I've never given up on that movie.

I'm sure The Jetsons will eventually happen, but at this point who knows how it's going to turn out. I doubt they are going to get Christopher Nolan to direct it. What are your thoughts on these film projects?
