Epic New SPARTACUS Movie Going into Development

Movie by Joey Paur

Producer Graham King (The Departed, Gangs of New York) and his GK Films banner are currently in the process of developing a new historically epic feature film based on Spartacus, the rebel leader who took on the Roman Empire for two years.

This film will in no way follow the story lines from Stanely Kubrik's 1960 film, or the Starz series, both of which are fictionalized stories. This new film will be developed around more of the historical facts surrounding the historical figure. The story will focus on "him leading a band of 70,000 elite gladiators and 50,000 freed slaves in revolt against the Roman war machine between 73 and 71 BC. The rebellion was defeated through the commander Marcus Licinius Crassus."

As you may already know I love history, and Spartacus is in need of an epic historical feature film. I'm very excited that this is going to happen, and I'm looking forward to see who is brought on board to direct and star in it. This has to potential of being an amazing film. King has a solid track record for producing great movies, so I imagine this will end up being everything I hope it will be.

300 writer Michael B. Gordon is taking a crack at the script. Gordon also received story by credit on Paramount's G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, but seriously that's nothing to brag about.

FGK Films has also produced films such as Rango, The Town and The Tourist.  They are currently in post-production on the Martin Scorsese 3-D family adventure film Hugo.  They are also working on the untitled Freddie Mercury biopic starring Sacha Baron Cohen, a reboot of Tomb Raider and Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.
