SDCC 2011: Stephen Soderbergh's HEYWIRE Panel

Movie Comic-Con by Joey Paur

Heywire is going to be one hell of a badass action film! Stephen Soderbergh currently has a couple films in the works, one of which is this Haywire movie that has an incredible cast of actors that includes MMA female fighter Gina Carano, Michael FassbenderChanning Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton, Michael Angarano, Matthieu Kassovitz and Antonio Banderas. This film is an Incredible looking adreniline spy espionage movie.

They opened up the panel with a trailer for the movie. I didn't really know what to expect, all we've had to go off of was the films story description, which I thought sounded pretty awesome. This trailer ended up kicking major ass, and made Heywire a must see movie. It looks awesome,  and it's unlike anything Soderbergh has ever made this is a balls to the wals action-film, and this guy has created some incredible action-packed fight sequences. I loved what I saw, and I think this film is going to end up being a big hit wen it comes out. It looks incredibly entertaining, and I'm excited as hell to see it.

The story follows a female covert ops specialist (Carano), who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she’s been double-crossed by someone close to her in the agency.

During the panel Soderbergh talked about why he picked Carla to star in the film. The idea was sparked after he saw her fight while watching TV. He wondered why no one had made a movie based around her, and so he took the challenge upon himself, he ended up meeting with her, and now we have a great looking movie!

Soderbergh Soderbergh went on to talk about the fight sequences in the film, and how they are more grounded in reality. He didn't want to do anything in these sequences that couldn't be accomplished in real life. During the panel we were shown a clip from the film that was an amazing fight scene between Gina Carano and Michael Fassbender which was brutally intense. Like Soderbergh explained, the sequence was very hardcore and realistic, it looked like they were really beating the ah it out of each other, and the fact of the matter is, they actually were!

This movie looks like it's going to be worth the price of admission. I'm incredibly excited for Heywire and there's no doubt that it will be an impressively awesome film! Soderbergh really out did himself with this one, and no he has no plans for retiring anytime soon, so we'll have several more Soderbergh movies coming our way which is great. The guy is just a great filmmaker that knows how to tell a good story.

The film comes out January 20th 2012.
