SCANNERS being turned into a TV series by Dimension

Dimension Films is currently adapting David Cronenberg's science-fiction horror classic Scanners into TV series. According to Deadline, it will be a drama series that follows "a group of people with telepathic and telekinetic abilities," and that Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) is set to executive produce the series and direct the pilot episode.

Dimension purchased the rights to the franchise a few years ago, but was not involved in the original 1981 film or its sequels. Initially, the studio planned on developing a remake with David Goyer to write the script, and Rene Malo, Clark Peterson and Pierre David signed as producers. After the success of AMC's The Walking Dead, Dimension changed directions to a small screen version. Goyer is no longer involved in the project, which will be produced by Malo, Peterson and David remain attached as executive producers on the series. Dimension is currently looking for a showrunner.

I have never seen the films in this series, but I hear the first is the best. I actually would rather see a TV series than a remake. My thought is that there are so many remakes being made for the big screen, which causes over-saturation. What are your thoughts?
