TALES FROM THE CRYPT Gets a New TV Series!

TV by Joey Paur

The classic 1950's horror comic book series Tales from the Crypt is getting a new TV show adaptation. Fifteen years ago the Crypt Keeper ended it's seven-year-run on HBO. I used to watch that show all the time, I loved it. It's cool to go back and watch them now, and see all the talent that came through the series. The new hourlong show will not be related to anything that was done on the original series, and it will not be anthological. This updated adaptation will be developed by the original Crypt Keeper series Gil Adler and Andrew Cosby the co-creator of Syfy's Eureka as well as the co-founder of comic book publisher BOOM! Cosby went on to explain the plans for the new show saying,

It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context. It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.

As of right now the series does not have a network in place. There were some legal hurdles that needed to be jumped over to get this series ready for production, but now that it's all taken care of the show can move forward. Producers have developed a detailed pitch and a bible for the new Tales from the Crypt series, and they are about to go out and start bringing the pitch to the networks, both for basic cable and paid cable. According to Deadline "The producers are considering both a traditional network model and non-traditional route for the project, including fully financing the series, probably as an international co-production, before taking it to U.S. nets." Apparently Cinemax has showed some interest in taking on the project.

This could be an awesome new show, and I hope that it takes gloriously takes off. I could use more Tales from the Crypt in my Life. What do you think?
