Lee Pace Cast in Spielberg's LINCOLN

Director Steven Spielberg has added yet another great actor to the cast of his long awaited Lincoln film project. Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace is the latest actor to join the film. He will be playing "opportunistic New York City mayor Fernando Wood, a prominent early supporter of the Confederate cause. The mayor traded frequent correspondence with President Lincoln." Pace will play this character before he heads out to New Zealand to play the Elven King Thranduil in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I enjoy watching Pace in the films and shows that he's been in, and he makes a great addition to the cast.

Pace joins an incredible cast of actors in the film that includes, Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln,  Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, David Strathairn as Secretary of State William Seward, and co-stars James Spader,  Hal HolbrookJohn HawkesTim Blake NelsonBruce McGill,Joseph CrossDavid CostabileByron JenningsDakin MatthewsBoris McGiverGloria ReubenJeremy Strong, and David Warshofsky.

Here's some information on the film from the previously released press release:

Based on the best-selling book, Team of Rivals, by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the screenplay has been written by the Pulitzer Prize winner, Tony Award winner, and Academy Award nominated writer Tony Kushner. It will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg. It is anticipated that the film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.
