Ray Stevenson Cast as Villain in G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES
Thor's Ray Stevenson has been cast as a villain in Jon Chu's G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. Stevenson has been in a couple Marvel film properties that includes Volstagg in Thor and the title role in The Punisher, he also starred in the HBO series Rome.
In Cobra Strikes Stevenson will play Firefly, who is a member of the Cobra terrorist organization. The character is known as a saboteur, ninja master and explosives expert. Firefly was actually one of my favorite Cobra Villain growing up, so it is cool that they are bringing him into the film. I think Stevenson is a solid choice for the character.
He joins the previously cast Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Park and D.J. Cotrona. It's looking like this film is going to get a full new cast, other than Tatum as Duke, and Park as Snake Eyes it doesn't seem like anyone else from the original film will be joining. Who knows, maybe their are negotiations going on that we don't know about.
The first G.I. Joe film left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't have high hopes for this sequel, but it can't be any worse that what we've already seen... or can it?
Here's a little more detail on the character:
Firefly's given name is unknown. Even Cobra Commander doesn't know his real name or what he looks like. Firefly is a ninja master, a saboteur, and an expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact explosives and detonators. He always places his charges in the proper location for maximum damage. His fees are paid into a numbered Swiss bank account, and are always paid in advance. He makes no guarantees, and gives no refunds.
