Jason Bateman's ID THEFT gets rewrite so Melissa McCarthy can star

Melissa McCarthy is set to star opposite Jason Bateman in ID Theft from Universal. Deadline reports that Bateman, who is also producing, pushed for a rewrite to the script so that McCarthy could star in the film. The script was penned by The Pursuit of Happyness scribe Steve Conrad and Craig Mazin has been tapped to rewrite.

The story was originally for "a guy who gets his identity stolen by another guy," and it was written for Bateman and another actor. After Bateman saw McCarthy's scene stealing performance in Bridesmaids he decided to change things up so that McCarthy could play the the identitiy thief. This will be the first film when Mike & Molly goes on hiatus, and is set to film in April 2012.

I am glad to see a movie with Bateman and McCarthy on screen together. This sounds like a perfect film for them for their comic timing. What are your thoughts?
